The ideas, custom and social behavior of a society defines its current and past identity. All cultures in the world have their own ways of preserving their customs, be it by rituals, folklore, and history, or even buildings and artifacts. The UAE has put in great effort in preserving its rich heritage and cultural legacy. Today, many of the ancient traditions are widely practiced; falconry, pearl diving, music and dance, but with the rapid urbanization they are at risk of disappearing. The fear of losing the Emarati identity gave the older generation incentive to make sure they pass on their customs to their children. The youth of today gather in majleses regularly around some Arabic coffee and dates, just like their fathers and grandfathers had done before them. They managed to preserve their national dress in spite of the great pressure of westernization and they continue to hold interest in their forefathers sports (falconry and camel racing). Time may have changed but the strong Emarati identity has passed the test of time and has remained intact of defining its locals in an urbanized UAE.
